Bishop Peter Muhich
Fr. Peter Muhich assumed the role of our chaplain September/October of 2013. On May 7, 2014, St. Raphael's Guild moved its meeting site from St. Raphael's Church in Canosia, MN to The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary, in Duluth. The move was made to provide an improved meeting space for our growing needs, as well as to follow our chaplain - Fr. Muhich, pastor at the Cathedral.
Fr. Peter was very involved with St. Raphael's Guild: He was actively involved in the yearly planning of the meeting calendar; he was integral to the planning of the annual White Mass, and he provided the spiritual direction for our group. In addition, Fr. Peter was twice our guest speaker, instructing us on spiritual healing. Fr. Peter also worked quite closely with Bishop Paul Sirba in responding to issues of Catholic medical ethics within the Diocese of Duluth.
Around May 4, 2020, Fr. Peter recieved "the call". The caller identified himself as Archbishop Christophe Pierre, the Papal Nuncio to the United States. He stated that the Holy Father wanted to appoint Fr. Peter to be Bishop of Rapid City, South Dakota.
As a parting gift, St. Raphael's bought Fr. Peter a new phone (Samsung Galaxie S-20).
On July 9, 2020, Fr. Peter was ordained Bishop of Rapid City.
Bishop Peter Muhich was very close to many of us. He is a kind, positive, realistic and deeply spiritual man. He will be greatly missed. We congratulate him and pray for him and the Diocese Rapid City, South Dakota. God Bless.
In addition, Bishop Peter Muhich was the Outstanding Guild Chaplain of 2020!! It was announced at the National Catholic Medical Associations Annual Educational Conference on Thursday, September 24, 2020. He was justly recognized for his spiritual leadership, his deep involvement in our Guild, his being spiritual director to guild members, his guidance in planning the annual White Mass, and his being a liaison to Bishop Sirba.
Bishop Muhich accepted the award from his office via Zoom - the entire proceeding was broadcasted virtually as a part of the national CMA meeting. He later commented to President Skorich, "You finally got me to a national conference!"
